DON'T GIVE THIEVES AN EASY WIN

Staffordshire Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant and take simple steps to protect their homes and vehicles following reports of opportunist thefts in the area.

Opportunist thieves are rarely looking for a challenge. They're much like teenagers asked to unload the dishwasher, if it looks difficult, they'll usually move on to something easier.

🏠 Protect Your Home • Always lock doors and windows, even when you are at home.
• Remove keys from doors and keep them out of sight.
• Ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings are securely locked.
• Consider using security lighting, alarms or CCTV where possible.
• Store valuable items out of sight from windows.

🚗 Protect Your Vehicle • Always lock your vehicle, even when parked on your driveway.
• Remove keys and never leave the engine running unattended.
• Do not leave valuables, bags, tools or electronic devices on display.
• Check that windows and sunroofs are fully closed.
• Consider using steering locks or other visible security devices.

🔑 A Quick Reminder Many thefts occur when criminals simply try door handles looking for an easy opportunity. Walking away from an unlocked car or open window is a bit like leaving your front door open with a sign saying, "Nothing to see here... probably."

Taking a few moments to lock up properly can make all the difference and encourage thieves to move on.
